Why Blog?

Okay, you’re here sitting in this class to learn about blogs and wikis. Great! But WHY? Why blog; why create or participate in a wiki? Give me your thoughts.

    Sheila,
I think the important thing about blogging is that it offers students a quick and easy way to review their own notes and the notes of others.

Wanting to know how to blog, create and use it in the classroom. Students these days love to be on the computer, why not make it educational! They won’t even realize it, but they’ll be learning. :-)

I would like to create a blog for our school’s media center.

I would also like to create a personal blog so that my brother’s family in Marietta can watch their niece grow since we don’t get to see each other as often as we like.

I have been hearing the “blog” word everywhere. I haven’t had the courage to say, “Hey, what in the world are you talking about?” I am in this class today to learn the basics of blogs and wikis so I can use this tool in my classroom.

Blogging can be used for better communication between teacher and student and between students. It can be used for pre-testing, summarizing, peer editing, and all sorts of other things!

Students could blog about what they learned or what they don’t understand about a lesson. The teacher could respond individually or to the class.
Students could write on a topic and let others comment – especially with persuasive writing. They can edit each other’s work and give constructive criticism.

I’m enjoying the resource section. Seeing ways that blogging can be used in the classroom.
